Skincare: Nighttime Routine

In this blog post, I will be sharing my personal nighttime skincare routine. Since I wear makeup most of the time, my night routine is a bit longer than my morning routine. However, I still believe that my night routine is quite simple. This is coming from a girl who used to do the 12-step Korean skincare regimen. Just to be clear, if that type of routine works for you, more power to you. I still stand by my previous blog post, “Holy Trinity” of Affordable Self-Care, in that there is no one correct way to do skincare. Everyone’s skin type will react differently to different routines. Having said this, if your skin type is on the combination spectrum and if you live in a relatively dry area, this routine might be perfect for you. For those with dry skin, check out this video by Tina Engeo about her night time skin routine.

Step 1: Take the makeup off

There are two products that I use to take off my makeup. The first is micellar water. I use the Garnier Fructis waterproof version with the blue cap. With a cotton pad, I dab the solution onto my eyeshadow. This is also a good step if you want to loosen your false lashes (if you wear them). The second product I use is Ponds cold cream. To be fair, my own mother calls me old for using this product. However, I will never go back to makeup remover wipes or oil. Cold cream is the only product that doesn’t completely drown my natural oils or makes my skin dry to the touch. The only thing I would say is the smell is a bit strong, so for anyone with a sensitive nose I would not recommend this product.

Step 2: Toner

I used to be very skeptical about the validity of using toner, but I have since enjoyed it for myself. I use the VERSED daily brightening face toner. Most toners I have used in the past have completely dried my face out, but VERSED has actually felt moisturizing. Using toner is also a good way to remove any excess makeup the micellar water and cold cream did not remove.

Step 3: Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!

Even though I have combination skin and I have oily spots, I will never forget to moisturize. Especially since I live in such a dry climate, this step is probably the most important step personally for me. For my skin, I like to you the CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion (PM). It is unscented and was actually recommended to me by my dermatologist.
