Another series coming from me again! As a person that has admittedly spent probably too much of her life watching TV, I feel that I have enough credibility to recommend some underrated shows. As with many of my series posts, like my Gods/Goddess Series: Kali/Mahakali or my Royalty Series: Wu ZeTian/武則天, this post will be sectioned into 3 parts. The first part being a background of the TV show in question, and the second part being an in depth description of the plot and main characters. The final part will include my own personal analysis of the show as well as a rating between 1-10 (1 = would not watch again for any reason, 10 = I would re-watch this over 20 times if I could/had the time).
What is The Legend of Vox Machina?
The Legend of Vox Machina is an Amazon Prime animated original series. The show is based on the first campaign of the Dungeons and Dragons web-series: Critical Role. There is definitely a lot of violence, gore, adult language, and nudity throughout the entirety of the 12 episodes available, so I do not recommend it for anyone under 18. The genre of the show switches between fantasy, comedy, and action.
Plot & Characters
The plot of the show follows 7 misfits of the magical/fantastical variety and their journey to becoming the heroic group called, Vox Machina.
- Keyleth of the Air Ashari, a half-elf humanoid who has the ability to understand, communicate, and manipulate nature.
- Scanlan Shorthalt is a forest gnome who has the ability to cast spells with his trusty loot.
- Percival de Rolo, a human and expert weaponry maker usually has a revolver as his combat weapon of choice.
- Grog Strongjaw, a goliath, is probably as strong as he is stupid.
- Pike Trickfoot, a cleric gnome, is the most powerful of all of the members. She hones power from the “light” and has the ability to heal the other members’ battle injuries. (FAVORITE CHARACTER)
- Vax’ildan and Vex’ahlia are half-elfs. Both are highly proficient in combat (Vax in close combat with daggers, and Vex in long-distance combat with her bow and arrow) Vex also has a bear named Trinket.
Why I love this show and why I want other people to watch it with me…
This show combines comedy and fantastical action so well. Personally, I have never played the game of Dungeons and Dragons. However, this show might actually have given me reason to try it out one day, and that is something I never thought would happen. It has been a while since I have genuinely gotten hooked onto a show to the point where I will rewatch it 3 more times after the first time. This show aired in January 2022, so I am definitely hoping for and expecting a season 2. Thank you Amazon Prime. 10/10!
